The kids are back in school and it’s back to getting everyone ready (including myself) in under 45 minutes. We like to sleep around here so time is of the essence during the week. That means I have about 5 mins to get dressed and beautified (if that’s what you call it) before we head out the door.

Like most busy moms I have very little time to put on a full face of makeup but I do need to look presentable, even if my next stop after the carpool is only the gym. Over the years I’ve mastered simplifying my routine and it all comes down to what’s in my makeup bag.

Keep it simple ladies!! Less is more.

FOCUS:  Never underestimate the power of focus. With so many things to juggle throughout the day moms need to be on the top of our game. Let me give you an example.

The first day of school we had to pick up the kids early at 1:30 pm. The second day was normal pick up. The night before I had stayed up really late working until 2 am.  That afternoon I crashed and decided to take a quick nap. At some point I decided there was enough time to run to Nordstrom Rack for a quick look before school was out.

As I’m pulling out of my driveway the school calls to tell me that the girls are in the office ready to be picked up. WHAT??? It was 3:15 and I was 20 minutes late!! What the heck was wrong with me? Had I lost my mind?

Thankfully my recent order of Doterra InTune arrived the very next day. A proprietary blend of amyris, patchouli, frankincense, lime, ylang ylang, sandalwood and Roman chamomile essential oils, InTune helps to enhance focus and support healthy thought processes. The first time I used it I could immediately tell a difference. I stayed focused for hours, powering through a ton of work. And I picked up my kids on time.  Can you say liquid Adderall?? Now it’s in my makeup bag wherever I leave the house.

FACE: I swear by SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion SPF 50. It’s the most lightweight tinted sunscreen I’ve ever come across. I apply this on my entire face and it smooths out my complexion and covers the yucky hyperpigmentation that drives me crazy. The other thing I found a few months ago is Mineral Fusion SPF 30 Brush-On Sun Defense. It comes in a convenient brush on formula that applies in seconds, giving light coverage. Not too heavy which is perfect. And it fits in my makeup bag -easy peasy.

EYES: No matter what I never leave the house without Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift. NEVER. EVER. EVER. Someone introduced this to me last year and it should really be in every woman’s makeup bag. I’m not even kidding. I don’t know what the magic is but it has something to do with “spherical polymetric powders” that fill in fine lines making the skin around the eye appear smooth. This stuff is incredible.

You can use alone or with a concealer too. I apply a drop on the outer corner and a drop on the inner corner of the eye, then pat gently with my pointer finger to blend.

The best beauty tip I’ve ever received was to always wear mascara. At the moment I’m loving Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara in Black. It lengthens, strengthens and majorly extends without smudging. Holla!

After recently trying the Laura Mercier Eyelash Curler, I actually started curling my eyelashes whenever I remember. It makes a huge difference and your eyes pop. Who knew? I always perceived this as an extra step not worth taking but I kinda like it.

LIPS: Last but not least is Laura Mercier Lip Plumper. I’m using Bronze Berry but it comes in six other beautiful colors. It applies smoothly, never sticky and it kinda tingles.

So there you have it. What’s in your makeup bag?
