Diapers | Sassy Moms In The City

The 100,000 Diapers Campaign

Imagine not being able to provide your baby with clean diapers. Having no choice but to use the same diaper all day, spilling any solid contents into the toilet and putting it back on your baby. There are thousands of parents faced with this dilemma everyday in Chicago because diapers are an expensive luxury that they cannot afford.

Luckily, a couple from Chicago has decided to tackle this problem head on by founding Bundle of Joy and Sassy Moms in the City is proud to partner with this wonderful organization. Following a model that has been successful in other cities across the nation, Bundle of Joy is a diaper bank that collects disposable diapers from various businesses, civic organizations, schools, church groups, and mom’s groups and is distributing them to families in need through local food pantries and childcare centers.

Poop Stinks! Diaper Genie II Elite Giveaway

Now that I fully have your attention, I just have to say it again. Poop. Stinks. Until you have a child you don’t truly understand this statement.

Before the birth of my oldest sassy daughter, an exceptionally kind friend offered to help me register for baby gear. Her advice was priceless and pretty much saved my life. Literally.

However, her recommendation for “processing” diapers was to use a regular stainless steel garbage can and scented poop bags (yes just like you do for dogs) for the mother loads. Apparently her kid’s poop smelled like roses.

At first I was unsure because I had known about the Diaper Genie for years. This was my go to shower gift for friends and family members. I think my cousin may still own the Diaper Genie I gave him to welcome the birth of his first child 7 years ago.

Also, I am huge Friends fan and if someone gave Rachel one as a baby gift, well I wasn’t about to miss out.

To my friend’s defense, her rationale eventually made sense to me because let’s face it, stainless steel allows you to pretend the nursery is just another beautifully decorated bedroom. Baby? What baby?

So as you can imagine, by the time my daughter was a few months old we started noticing a pungent odor in her room. Turns out poop not only stinks but it absorbs into the plastic of a regular garbage can.

PS. Baking soda and airing out on our patio did not work.

We stuck it out for 18 months until my daughter was fully potty trained; then promptly dropped the can in the dumpster.

Enter baby #2.

Hello Diaper Genie II Elite! Learning from our first experience, my husband drove straight to Target as soon as the plus sign appeared on the stick.

It has been 1 year that the Diaper Genie Elite has been a member of our family and we LOVE it. I am also happy to report no more stanky smells leaching from my daughter’s room!

5 Reasons I Love the Diaper Genie!!

1.Hands down the best odor control.
2.Holds A LOT of diapers (up to 30).
3.Modern, ergonomic design, takes of very little space, taller pail which means I don’t need to bend down to dispose diapers (ie: I can hold the kid at the same time).
4.Refill bags are awesome and can be cut to any size you want (1-30 newborn diapers at a time), to eliminate excess waste.
5.Has a foot pedal so my hand never touches the pail.
