sassy mom spotlight: april giannosa

We’re kicking off 2014 by spotlighting one of my favorite fashion bloggers who just happens to be from Chicago and mom of two adorable sassy kiddos. April is the editor and founder of KnockedupFabulous.com (don’t you love that name) and has an incredible eye for style and photography. I’m obsessed with her photos and look forward to every new post. She’s hip, chic and of course sassy! You can also find April on Sassy Moms in the City, every Tuesday for her Best of Beauty column.

Occupation:  Elementary teacher and blogger at Knocked Up Fabulous

About April:  I was born and raised in the Chicago area.  I’ve always had a love for teaching.  During the days I teach children.  But at night, I focus on blogging and showing other moms that maintaining a sense of style doesn’t stop once you have kids.

SMITC interview with April

SM: What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

AG: I am not a coffee drinker.  If anything, I’ll have a cup of tea, but mostly I just really need my sleep to keep me going.

SM: What or who inspired you to start Knocked Up Fabulous?

AG: I was in a dark place at the time.  My husband was recovering from a serious work injury, we had a toddler, and I was pregnant again.  I wanted to put effort into my maternity looks, but there weren’t any good resources on the web for inspiration.  So I started Knocked Up Fabulous as my own personal outlet for maternity inspiration…it was a bonus to inspire other knocked up mamas too!

SM: What has been the biggest challenge balancing work, motherhood and your blog?

AG: Keeping everything on schedule is the crazy part.  There is always time to get things done, but it’s knowing how to organize the time.  That’s the tricky part.

SM: What’s your “secret” to being Sassy?

AG: During my 20s it was so easy to compare myself to other women and be envious of them…the clothes they wore, their great features, whatever.  Then finally I got tired of that.  I became more and more confident with myself.  Not just how I looked, but with all aspects in my life.  Confidence is very freeing.  It has allowed me to focus on myself and not waste my time comparing to what others have. knocked up fabulous april

SM: What is your guilty pleasure when you get a little coveted ‘me’ time?

AG: I don’t watch much TV, but I love watching Project Runway.  I usually have to seek some time in over the weekend to catch up with what I missed during the week!
