cuttng edge stencils home office renovation part II (#giveaway)

Who knew a home office renovation could be so challenging? On one hand the room is a blank slate with endless design potential. On the other hand, it’s a square room, zero natural light and the walls painted a beautiful peacock blue.

I love the impact that teal offers but the walls desperately needed interest and texture. Wallpaper is an option but can be expensive. This is why I love Pinterest. It’s an amazing resource for almost anything, especially design ideas. After reading several DIY blogs, I found the perfect solution – Moroccan Stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils.

At first glance, the stencils look intimidating and tedious. After reviewing their instructional videos, I knew this was something hubs could definitely manage. But would he be willing to take on a new DIY project?

Our experience using Cutting Edge Stencils was extremely easy, cost effective and created a gorgeous accent wall in my home office. Here are a few tips before getting started.

Stenciling Tips:

  1. Select Your Stencil: Prior to painting your wall, select your Cutting Edge Stencil. Some stencils use the base paint as the outline, some use the secondary color as the outline. I chose a Moroccan stencil AFTER the walls were painted, fortunately finding a design that worked perfectly. There were other designs I loved but it would have had the opposite effect, covering most of the teal base coat.
  2. Paint Selection: Cutting Edge Stencils recommends using acrylic or latex paint. Many of their sample photos used Modern Masters Metallic and you can find a local retailer here. We were worried that the paint would run, but it dried quickly and we had no problems.
  3. Supplies: Purchase the separate Stencils Essential Kit, you’ll need everything that’s included. We used a paper plate as a paint tray and it worked well.
  4. Plan for a few hours: The entire process for stenciling one wall took us around an hour.
  5. Have patience and take your time. It’s important to apply the paint slowly to avoid smearing. Modern Masters drys quickly and didn’t bleed but there are a few places it was not 100% perfect.
