What I Wore Wednesday with Stylist Libby Salerno Romano
December 14th, 2011This week’s What I Wore Wednesday outfit was hilariously put together by moi for a baby shower thrown by some of my dearest friends this past weekend. I had no time to go shopping for something new prior to the festivity, so inevitably, I ended up standing inside my closet in near-tears, pining through every last piece of clothing I own for the perfect outfit.
And then, somehow, it just all came together. That’s how these things usually work for me. I remembered I had this brown jersey dress that I had purchased nearly two years ago from Tribeca Boutique on Madison, which usually doesn’t make it off the hanger due to its clingy nature. However, what I have come to realize is that these types of dresses, while they can make for a lot of self-consciousness when you’re not pregnant and you feel the need to ‘suck it all in,’ actually work amazingly during pregnancy, because you can ‘let it all out!’
I paired this dress with a scarf, wrapped infinity-style, and my trustry brown Michael Kors booties.
(Here’s a maternity style tip: A great way to wear a scarf while you’re pregnant is to wrap it infinity-style, rather than letting it hang and flow, which can add volume to your body and baby bump.)
And what you can’t see in these pics are my Halston python-print bag and Topshop faux fur coat, which add a touch of fabulosity. At least I think so.
The Look:
Dress: Tribeca Boutique on sale two summers ago, $70
Boots: Michael Kors, approximately $150
Scarf: Target, approximately $9.99
Coat: Topshop, approximately $150
Bag: Halston Heritage, approximately $300

December 7th, 2011Today’s What I Wore Wednesday look is a business casual go-to. By pairing a long maternity tank with a blazer, and wearing over some nice denim and a pair of leather boots, you create a look that is transitional – not only from day to night, but even throughout the seasons.
I wore this particular outfit to work all day in, and then went to a dinner meeting. I felt put together, but also comfortable and not restricted. Sometimes it is hard to fit a blazer underneath a winter coat as it gets colder out, but try this maternity style tip – wear a poncho over it! I wore the one feature in another week’s digest of WIWW, and it worked perfectly.
This week’s breakdown:
Tank: A Pea in the Pod, Approximately $35
Blazer: Express, circa at least ten years ago, Approximately $100
Denim: AG Maternity Jeans from A Pea in the Pod, Approximately $200
Boots: Aldo, Approximately $90 (also featured in a previous WIWW)

November 23rd, 2011Happy Thanksgiving Week! I hope you are all getting ready and geared up for a great holiday weekend. I’m getting in the spirit by visiting with family in Florida, and I’m fully taking advantage of the sun!
This week’s WIWW outfit is something I’m wearing to a casual dinner with the family. It is so comfortable, and yet I still feel put together at 27 weeks preggo! The main pieces were reasonably priced, with my money spent more on the accessories.
I went with a vibrantly-printed top whose silhouette flatters the baby bump paired with skinny jeans and wedges. I’m especially loving my accessories, consisting of a diamond cross necklace given to me by my husband for our first wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago, along with my new Roberto Cavalli sunglasses. I somehow lucked into one of the only three pairs that Nordstrom received!
Top: Target, $17.99
Jeans: A Pea in the Pod, approximately $80
Shoes: Aldo, approximately $80
Sunglasses: Roberto Cavalli, $450

November 16th, 2011This week’s What I wore Wednesday outfit is quite possibly the most comfortable outfit I own, and I am so happy to share it with everyone because of its versatility and affordability!
As I was running like a mad woman through Target this past weekend, I literally grabbed this Be Maternity ruched tank top and maternity leggings off the rack and put them in my cart. And, lucky me, they fit!
I paired these tight-fitting (and yet oh-so-comfortable) pieces with a classic Tory Burch sweater and my over-the-knee Aldo boots. It’s a great outfit for my work as a personal stylist, for a girls’ night out, and also for lounging around the house (lounging sans-boots, that is).
Be Maternity Ruched Tank, approximately $20
Be Maternity Capri Leggings, approximately $25
Tory Burch Sweater, approximately $250
Aldo Brang Boots, approximately $110

November 8th, 2011Over at DeFrump Your Bump, I’ve been preaching about capes and ponchos for the fall and winter months. This week, I practice what I preach for What I Wore Wednesday - layering a camel-colored cape over a tee shirt, and pairing it with flared maternity jeans and four-inch patent stilettos.
Sometimes I love an understated and classic look, and the cut is insanely comfortable. It’s perfect for running around town with hubby, friends, kids, and/or pets.
Cape: Aqua Gold Button Cape, Bloomingdale’s, $148
Jeans: A Pea in the Pod Boot Cut Maternity Jeans, $49.99 (on sale now!)
Shoes: Patent Leather Pumps, ALDO Shoes, $110

November 2nd, 2011Good Morning, Sassy Moms and Moms-To-Be! As we are now in November, and it officially feels like fall, the time is upon us to break out the sweaters and get cozy for What I Wore Wednesday. This week, I’ve chosen to layer a lightweight knit sweater over a long maternity tank top and skinny jeans. This look is casual and effortless, but looks put together… and it actually does a pretty amazing job of masking a pregnancy bump (not that I’m trying to hide it, though).
This look is easily accomplished whether you are pregnant or not, and regardless of your budget; so go online or get to your favorite shop and try piecing this outfit together for your own layered fall look!
All pieces shown here are from A Pea in the Pod, except boots, from Michael Kors.
Elbow Sleeve Relaxed Maternity Sweater: $89.50
Sleeveless Scoop Neck Slim Fit Maternity Tank: $19.99 (on sale!)
A Pea in the Pod Secret Fit Belly 5-Pocket Maternity Skinny Jeans, $119.50
Boots, Michael Kors, Approximately $150

October 26th, 2011It’s that time of the week again, and I’m happily rocking this 23-week bump I’m de-frumping, in a casual outfit with easy-to-wear pieces for What I Wore Wednesday. I love buying items of clothing that I know I can mix and match and wear over and over again.
While my top and jeans are from maternity brands, you can take the basic mix-and-match principle and pair it with “fit,” to create an equally well-executed, figure-flattering look. Make sure that form-fitting tops work well with your curves, and look for denim that is made to accentuate your body type. Add a pop of color with a well-chosen accessory, like this scarf (or, choose a statement necklace or earrings for a similar effect). I love this look under a light fall trench and with my oversized black Halston bag for casual perfection while running around town.
Black Tank Top: Liz Lange for Target Long and Lean Ribbed Tank, $9.99 (hint: these tanks are great even if you’re not pregnant, because they’re long, and they’re stretchy – which means they are super comfy!)
Tee: Liz Lange for Target Maternity Long-Sleeve Knit Hoodie, $19.99
Denim: A Pea in the Pod Early & After Belly 5 Pocket Fit and Flare Jeans, $59.99 (on sale now!)
Booties: Nordstrom Rack (a couple of years ago), approximately $75

October 19th, 2011It’s so great to be back to What I Wore Wednesday after a brief hiatus. And as you can see, there is something additional in my photo this week! That’s right, it’s my bump! This is the only existing photo of it so far, as I really just started to show about two weeks ago. I’m now 22 weeks along in my first pregnancy, and I’m DeFrumping MY Bump, right along with my readers!
Today I’ve chosen a layered look, and my dog Lou liked it so much he just couldn’t stay out of the picture. One of my pregnancy style staples has become an unbuttoned blazer over a long maternity tank top, paired with either flared or skinny jeans and heels. Today I’ve chosen a pair of flared maternity jeans from A Pea in the Pod.
This outfit is great for work, brunch, dinner, or an outing with your husband or girlfriends, and these are wardrobe staples you can continue to wear after your pregnancy.
Top: Liz Lange for Target Long & Lean Maternity Tank Top, $9.99
Blazer: Banana Republic, Approximately $90, purchased a few years ago
Jeans: A Pea in the Pod Jeans Early & After Belly 5 Pocket Fit & Flare Maternity Jeans, $89.50 (right now on sale for $59.99!!)
Bump: Priceless

September 21st, 2011Today’s look is a layered pairing that works great for that time between summer and fall. I threw on a Liz Lange for Target long and lean materity tank and paired it with William Rast boot-cut jeans (found at Nordstrom Rack) and a white Banana Republic tailored jacket. I finished off the look with a multi-colored scarf and camel-colored patent heels, both from Target.
This outfit is versatile, as I am wearing it to meetings, to lunch, and to the grocery store, and it is both casual and yet put-together at the same time. If I run into someone while I’m out and about, I definitely won’t feel frumpy! And this is how I’ve DeFrumped My (Growing) Bump!
Tank Top: $9.99
Jeans: Approximately $70 (on sale)
Jacket: Approximately $150
Scarf: Approximately $15
Shoes: $29.99

What I Wore Wednesday with Stylist Libby Salerno
September 14th, 2011Dear Sassy Moms in the City Readers,
This Wednesday is particularly special with regard to my weekly style contribution, as I would like to share with you the news that I am expecting! I just announced this to my own readers at DeFrump Your Bump yesterday, and I will now be chronicling for WIWW my personal style throughout the remainder of my pregnancy. I am due in February, currently 17 weeks along (this is my first), and my husband and I couldn’t be happier. I hope you continue to enjoy WIWW, and I look forward to continuing to share ideas for achieving impeccable style in pregnancy and in motherhood!
For today’s What I Wore Wednesday….
I’m finally wearing a maternity top for some extra room, but am not quite in maternity jeans (I’ve been using the extenders, so I can continue to wear what I currently own). I continue to wear jeggings, which stretch and look nice under a top such as the one pictured.
I found this super-soft, camel-colored sweater at Motherhood Maternity, and the jeggings are ones I’ve worn for this column before, which I purchased at an amazing Bloomingdale’s sale. I’ve also worn these shoes before, purchased from Target. Together, the outfit is neutral, but the silhouette makes it shine. It is really one of my most comfortable outfits.
What I Wore Head to Toe
Style Tip: A top with this silhouette and length can also be worn as a dress, with heels or boots (just another idea for you).
Top: Motherhood Maternity, approximately $40
Denim: Bloomingdale’s Sale, approximately $10
Shoes: Mossimo at Target, approximately $29
