Eyebrow Style – Got Beauty Questions? Ask the Mafia Hairdresser
If the windows to the soul are the eyes, then eyebrows might be the valences, the curtains or the shutters. I am a make-over expert and I think eyebrows are the most important feature. They bring attention to and frame the eyes and they help you present to the world the person you want all to see.
And yet eyebrows are the most common neglected grooming procedure on both women and men. I cannot tell you how many times I have cut and colored a client and done my darnedest to do a great style for her and can be eclipsed behind eyebrows grown in prickly or shaggy fashion, or plucked to near-death pencil-thin nothingness. And guys, you look so old and un-kempt when you let those caterpillars grow extra-long legs.
Think about this: Why is it that when a media photo is taken of any “remains-to-be-anonymous” man or woman on the street (famous or not) they block out the eyes and eyebrows? That is because when you put a black rectangle over the eyes and eyebrows you can’t tell who it is. And it’s the eyebrows that would actually be the give-away. Eyebrows make the whole face so distinctive and enhance the whole face that by taking them away a person becomes anyone.
Please go to a professional when you get your eyebrows groomed. I have blogged about how to do your own root touch-ups, and I have told my clients how to trim their own bangs. But I always insist that my clients go to a good eyebrow person; someone who is looking at your whole face to give you that perfect shape and arch. Guys, it’s okay to keep a natural look, but let me trim those suckers when they get too long.
Most of my clients go to three eyebrow professionals in our salon. Margaret and Nicole are two of the top estheticians in Chicago and they both use the best waxing techniques and skin care. My clients a love their work and their clients YELP about them and they are the best I’ve ever worked with. And then there’s Ronnie, a fellow stylist who does mine and many of my clients too. He’s a master at plucking the eyebrows and it’ll cost you about the same as waxing. He likes plucking because he believes that it’s gentler than waxing, but I just like how he does mine and I know his work takes years off of my face.
I have to mention threading because it is another great technique for shaping eyebrows. It is achieved by twisted string which is run across the unwanted hairs and pulls them out. Again: Go to a professional! Threading takes a long time for the practitioner to achieve precision but once you find a good threader they can get great results. There is a chain salon dedicated to eyebrow threading, facial threading, henna tattoos and more. They are called Brow Art 23 and their locations seem to be popping up everywhere. A lot of my social media friends have been tweeting about them and I know these ladies personally and they all have great brows so I recommend:
Go to www.browart23.com to find a location near you.
Great shaped eyebrows are even more important than hair and make-up.
Eyebrows are the easiest and quickest beauty grooming regimen. And eyebrow arching takes little time and the costs is minimal for a great look. When you pair great eyebrows with make-up and hair you’ll be looking your best.
