When Did Pre-School Become a Full Time Job?
I’m a newbie when it comes to school participation considering sassy kid #1 just started this past year. I’m not going to lie. As much as I LOVE and we really do LOVE our school, it is like I a celebrity on my hands with all the paperwork I am managing on a weekly basis.
I was definitely naïve when I thought I had five years before I would be required to engage in my kid’s scholastic participation. Not that I mind but this is why I get frustrated.
I work full time but I am the only parent that manages all the paper work, due dates, fundraisers, appointments, projects and whatever else appears in her backpack on a daily basis. Don’t get me wrong, husband does ton around here but I can’t seem to do keep up with a three year old’s pre-k commitments.
I seem to constantly miss due dates (one a recent order of Girl Scout Cookies) because the turnaround time averages about 1 week or less. Today just happened to be parent day which I almost missed until sassy kid’s teacher asked me last Thursday if I was planning to attend. She probably thinks I’m a total space cadet or completely checked out.
I beat myself up because as a mom this is MY responsibility that I am having such a difficult time managing. Man do I miss school free days when our most difficult task was heading to the library, zoo or Gymboree class. I definitely need to get my act together before she hits kindergarten and sassy kid #2 starts pre-k. I foresee a potential disaster on the horizon.
Until then, I will continue to keep my head above water until summer approaches.
